Developments

Light for Life is continually striving to meet the emerging needs of the community and where a need develops, the organisation looks at innovative ways of supporting people. To this end, a range of new developments are in their infancy, but already proving to be successful.

Light for Life was commissioned in 2013 to provide overnight shelter for vulnerable people in Sefton and in particular, Southport. The winter turned out to be a little ‘warmer’ than expected (though no less inhospitable if a person is rough sleeping) and the temperature did not trigger its operation. The service has been rolled over to this winter 2014-15 and we are very grateful to the Area Committee for Southport and SMBC’ s Community Fund for their support. We are also very grateful to those individuals and groups in the community who volunteered to join the staff team in providing the service.

We are providing Housing support in relation to evictions, threatened eviction, homelessness, landlord disputes and so on in the Bootle area from a number of bases in the area including St Leonards Community Centre, Hugh Baird College and BOSCO. We have a trial of two bonds for individuals leaving BOSCO to live in the community.

We have just received news that we have been successful in a bid for CCG funding. With this support, we will be appointing two Young Peoples Advisors who will work with students at Southport College who are experiencing difficulties outside of the learning environment having left home or care. We are also working with Public Health and SMBC to look at ways to address street drinking problems in Southport town centre and hope that we will have news to share about that very soon.
